Emily’s passion came suddenly while working as a travel agent, dreaming of a perfect job working as a travel writer. She invested in a course at Mount Royal University in Travel Writing and, as instructed, looked through a few magazines to find a fit. She came across SZ Magazines, then emailed the owner/editor and sent him the speech she had been reciting while volunteering, and paid, to read to Junior and Senior High Schools, Mount Royal University students, a group home, piers and caregivers on what it’s like living with schizophrenia.

It landed a paid published agreement on writing about traveling with a disability. Emily continued for five issues, loving the research, writing, and completion of each article so much that she wanted to work her writing into a career. To do this, Emily decided to apply to be accepted into The University of Calgary Creative Writing Certificate program for learning and credibility, and where it takes her. What she lived through needs to be told, and a great movie needs to be seen. My preferred movie is, of course, “A Beautiful Mind,” as Russell Crowe exposed the pain of living with a mental illness in being misjudged, misguided, misused, and misunderstood. The ending made me cry. I have been exposed to scriptwriting, and I have always had a genuine interest in learning how it is created and writing one in regards to “A Mind All Her Own.”
